This week’s Deal Carnival could be a record breaker, with the biggest number of entries ever.

That is the forecast from Deal, Walmer and Kingsdown Regatta Association chairman John Trickey, who is hoping to smash the 147-entry mark.

He said: “We set that record a few years ago and the number of entries does seem to have surpassed all expectations.

“I am looking forward to the carnival, although still need volunteers to help out. Just turn up at the parade start at 5.30pm.”

The procession tomorrow (Thursday), July 25, starts near the Downs Sailing Club at 7pm, and heads along The Strand to turn to the seafront at Deal Castle, ending at Godwyn Road.

Deal Mayor Cllr Marlene Burnham praised the weekend Deal Regatta events, especially the lorry pull on Sunday.

She said: “It was heaving on the seafront and, my word, it was hot. Well done Deal Regatta people for organising such a tremendous afternoon.

“My message to people at the carnival parade is have a good time and remember to put money into the collection tins.”

Cllr Burnham will be joined by eight other mayors and district council chairman Cllr Sue Nicholas on the Party on the Prom stage by Deal Pier.
