Dishwasher blaze in Church Hill, Sutton, is a warning to others

Firefighters in Deal tackled a dishwasher fire in a woman’s home in Church Hill in Sutton, on Tuesday.

Two appliances, one from Deal with back up from Dover, attended the fire at around 10.30am.

The crew tackled the small blaze within half an hour, leaving little to no damage to the woman’s home.

Watch manager Malcolm Cowie said: “The lady did everything right. She switched off the appliance. The only thing damaged was the dishwasher.”

Watch manager Cowie has issued safety advice to anyone who may find an electrical appliance alight.

He said: “The best thing to do is to switch off the appliance, call the fire brigade and stay out.

"Don’t attempt to fight the fire.”
