Fire crews tackle blaze at home in Cowper Road, Deal

Heat from a tortoise vivarium lamp sparked a house fire today.

Four fire engines and a height vehicle were sent to Cowper Road, in Deal at 2.50pm after the heat from the lamp set nearby items alight.

The road was closed while firefighters dealt with the blaze, which started in the loft.

The incident is also understood to have caused delays on the nearby London Road.

There were no reported injuries

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Cowper Road in Deal to reports of a house fire.

"Four fire engines and height vehicle attended, and crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled a fire in a converted loft space, believed to have started accidentally after heat from a tortoise vivarium lamp set nearby items alight."

Crews left the home at 5.04pm.
