A food bank has called on people in financial crisis to reach out if they are struggling to feed themselves and their families.

Deal Area Foodbank, which covers Deal, Sandwich and Aylesham, near Dover, extended the message as more people plunge into money difficulties because of the coronavirus.

Project co-ordinator Sheila Ward said: "Recent social media posts have suggested that Deal Area Foodbank is no longer active in Sandwich.

"We would like to point out that this is completely untrue.

"Although Foodbank centres are physically closed, referrals are still being made and a home delivery service makes sure all the referrals have a home delivery."

The best way for people to donate is at Sainsbury's and Co-ops.

The food bank is planning a Drive-Thru Donations event at Sainsbury’s in Deal to help boost its stocks.

A team of volunteers will be waiting at a designated donation station outside the West Street store on Saturday and Sunday, May 23 and 24 from 10am to 1pm each day.

Those who wish to donate are assured social distancing and PPE precautions will be upheld.

They just need to park briefly in a dedicated space, drop off donations and drive away.

Volunteers are particularly calling for puddings, custard, tinned potatoes, pot noodles, washing-up liquid, kitchen cleaners, gravy granules, and hot dogs.

All those in need should phone 01304 728428.

Large donations can be phoned through for collection if people don't want to leave their homes.

To donate cash, phone or email info@dealarea.foodbank.org.uk.
