The Deal half-marathon has been called off due to amber weather warnings issued for this weekend.

Storm Ciara is set to batter the county this weekend.

Last year's Deal half-marathon

Race director Jill Cliff said: "We have had to cancel the half-marathon on Sunday due to the extreme weather warnings and are already planning a rescheduled race up on the track at Betteshanger."

The new date for the half-marathon is March 1.

A "danger to life" weather warning for Kent was upgraded to severe by the Met Office today.

Storm Ciara is due to hit the county on Sunday, bringing winds of up to 80mph, which forecasters say are likely to damage buildings and close roads and bridges

The Met Office said: "Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto seafronts, coastal roads, and properties."

But it has now upgraded its yellow weather warning to amber, meaning there is not only potential risk to life but of damage to buildings.
