Power Pylons

There is still time to tell decision makers what you think of plans to build a new electricity connector from Richborough to Canterbury.

A subsidiary of National Grid, called the National Grid Electricity Transmission Plc (NGET), is spearheading the project, named The Richborough Connection.

If it goes ahead, it will involve pylons being erected to carry the energy to Canterbury through the Stour valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Nine meetings were held at halls and conference sites throughout June and July showcasing the plans and how they will be carried out.

It will join up with another project, named the Nemo Link, which will install power cables under the sea between Richborough and Zebrugge in Belgium. The Nemo Link is a green energy sharing scheme, meaning we share any surplus green energy with Belgium and vice versa.

When the consultation first started, a statement from National Grid, said: “There is no National Grid electricity network in the Richborough area which is why the Richborough Connection needs to be developed.

“This marks the start of a two- year consultation process.”

Take a look at National Grids plans and leave your comment by visiting: www.richboroughconnection.co.uk before Friday, August 9.
