Police are still trying to identify to body of a man found in the water at St Margaret's Bay.

Walmer RNLI assisted a crew from Dover and the UK Coastguard in a two-hour search after reports of a suspicious object in the water on Sunday.

The operation was called off due to poor weather conditions and the body of a man was recovered by Langdon Battery Coastguard Rescue Team the next day.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "We were called to a report of a body in the water at St Margaret’s Bay on Sunday 29 July at 3.40pm.

"Officers attended the scene to assist the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

"On Monday the body of a man was recovered from the sea.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the man and the circumstances surrounding his death."
