Book lovers will be heading back to Deal Library on Tuesday when it reopens after being closed since December 20.

New windows have been installed, the walls have been repainted, and new flooring and lighting has been fitted, at a total cost of £645,000.

Kate Nowowiecki, senior media relations officer, said: "Deal will soon be home to a new lighter and brighter library in time to match the spring weather.

"The project has been a partnership with the district council, Kent Adult Social Services and Kent Youth services, and has seen a complete transformation of the building.

"Customers will be able to relax in comfortable seating and browse a wide range of the latest book titles. There are areas for study and community activities with spaces to showcase local art. The library now has a wider, more welcoming entrance as well as customer toilets."

The district council will have offices in the library, which used to be based at the Town Hall.

Council staff will now be on duty three days a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am to 5pm.
