Dover Athletic boss Nicky Forster wants his side to be less of a soft touch next season as they bid to secure promotion from Blue Square Bet South.

The Whites manager (pictured) brought in commanding defender Daniel Webb – son of former Chelsea boss Dave – this week and revealed he hopes the centre-back can provide his side with some much-needed ‘bite.’

Forster said: "Daniel’s a big boy. He’s strong, he’s physical and he’s committed.

"I think last year we were maybe a little soft. We need a bit more bite next season, we need to be tougher."

He added: "We were near the top of the fair play league last year and I’m not saying I want us to be bottom next season but I want us to be tougher. I want us to be hard but fair."

Former Southend, Hull and Cambridge United man Webb, who turns 29 in July, arrives at Crabble on a one-year deal from Salisbury City.

Forster said: "It is a good acquisition for us. He has played at a higher level but he’s also played at this level and he knows what is all about.

"He won players’ player of the year last season and for me that award is the most significant a player can win because it shows you have earned the respect of your peers."
