Kent Police are still appealing for witnesses to a crash on the A20 coast-bound route into Dover.

Emergency services attended the scene of the serious road traffic collision, which happened just before 4pm on Wednesday near the turn-off to Samphire Hoe.

Three foreign, articulated heavy goods vehicles, registered in Poland, Germany and Spain, were involved resulting in approximately 10,000 litres of industrial oil leaking onto the carriageway from ruptured tanks of the German lorry.

The driver of the German registered vehicle, a 30-year-old German man, was cut from the wreckage of his lorry and taken to the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, by air ambulance.

He was treated for serious leg injuries and his condition was described as critical.

The Serious Crash Investigation Unit was called to the dual carriageway.

Rosy Alexander, from Kent Police, said: "Due to the damage caused to the road surface and barrier, and the protracted and difficult recovery of two of the large goods vehicles involved, the road was closed overnight in both directions. It reopened at 5.30am on Thursday.

The Environment agency also attended to assist with the oil spillage.
