police appeal for witnesses to robbery and assault

A man was hit over the head with a wooden baton and robbed of his wallet and phone when walking home from a night out in Deal.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened on London Road between 12.30am and 1.06am on Sunday, January 16.

The attacker spoke to the 25 year-old victim and followed him to the junction of Gilham Grove and demanded cash.

Police spokeswoman Rosy Alexander said: "He threatened him with a wooden baton.

"The victim was struck about the head and body, sustaining minor injuries and he gave the offender his phone and wallet."

The man went to a nearby house for help and did not see where his attacker went.

The offender is described as 6ft tall, medium build, wearing a dark blue water proof jacket, dark trousers, and a full-face balaclava with the mouth and eye holes cut out.
