LIVES were put at risk by an individual or group of people who tied a rope across a road at head height.

The rope is believed to have been taken from a nearby cricket pavilion and attached to a fence post and lamp-post at Sholden New Road, near Deal on Monday night.

Fortunately, the rope was spotted by a motorist who removed it in time.

Police are now making enquiries with young people in the Sholden area. A Kent Police spokesman said: “If a motorcyclist had driven into the rope, he could have been seriously injured or possibly killed, and the people responsible could be looking at a manslaughter charge.”

“I would urge parents of young people in that area to make sure their children know the dangers of this action and the consequences they will face.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kent Police on 01304 240055.Alternatively, telephone Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Calls to Crimestoppers are free and your anonymity is guaranteed.
