What started off as a personal revision strategy for Arran Powell has turned into an educational resource that is being used in schools across the country.

The Castle Community College sixth-former, 16, devised a colourful verb table when studying for his French GCSE in March.

He was so proud of it that he uploaded it to the Times Educational Supplement (TES) website, where it received three 5* ratings from teaching experts.

What’s more, he knows it’s being used to help other pupils because it has been downloaded 266 times.

Arran, who has a flair for Computer Aided Design (CAD), said: “My parents like it and they are pleased it’s been recognised by my French teacher Monsieur Paissereau.”

He put it up in July but created it during the spring when organising his revision.

As well as simplifying something many French students find difficult to understand, he has made and uploaded an organic chemistry chart for AS students and an email etiquette chart that would be good in the workplace as well as for students and new internet users.

His form tutor Amanda Thomas said she was proud of his achievement. “He is somebody who has thought of it and put it out there for other teachers to share with their students,” she said.

The TES site has thousands of educational resources available to download. Some are put up by teachers but are not even endorsed or used, so Arran is extra-proud of his creation, which got him a B in French and an A in his oral exam.

Despite being a whizz at imparting his knowledge, Arran doesn’t want to become a teacher.

He is enjoying his studies at the school’s sixth form and hopes to go in to design engineering.
