Crews are still at the scene of an "accidental" fire in a three-storey house in Deal.

Four engines including back up from Folkestone were called to a residential property in Beach Street just after 10.30am.

Police were also asked to attend for traffic control with the road closed between the junctions of Golden Street and Farrier Street.

Speaking at 1.30pm, a spokesman said: "Three fire engines remain on the scene and the fire has been contained.

"There are no reported casualties. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental."

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to extinguish a fire in some wooden joists in the cellar and ground floor of the property.

A fog spike was also used to break though a wall cavity to deliver a fine mist to reduce the heat and prevent further fire spread.

In the mean time, a technical rescue team were called in to help secure some scaffolding on the outside of the building.

Firefighters are now using a specialist saw to cut away some floor and ceiling joists to damp down remaining hot spots.

The ground floor front room has been damaged by heat, smoke and water, and the remainder of the property is lightly smoke logged.

All electricity to the property has been switched off.
