Freemens Way in Deal was forced to close on Tuesday following a series of heavy downpours.

The road which connects Mill Hill and Telegraph Road was one of the worst affected by the constant rain.

It re-opened just before midday on Wednesday.

Kent Highways also closed Canute Road near the junction with Ethelbert Road and asked people to use alternative routes.

Residents in Allenby Avenue were left battling against flood water too.

Lexi Rigden, 28, claimed the water was knee height at some points.

She said: “It floods badly when it rains.

Lexi Rigden took this shot of Allenby Avenue from her upstairs window.

“I have phoned the council, Southern Water and the police. Neighbours are controlling the road but drivers are not listening.

"I can’t leave the house as I’ve got to keep an eye on water levels.”

Southern Water attended Allenby Avenue shortly after 12.30pm with sandbags and Miss Rigden said the flooding quickly subsided.

Mayers Road was also affected.

A spokesman for Southern Water said: "I have spoken to our team on the ground and we are aware of this issue and are responding to reports of surface water flooding at this location.

"We have ordered two tankers to attend and they should be arriving shortly to help pump water away from the area.

"We understand flooding can be upsetting for customers and when it does occur we make every effort to attend as quickly as possible and assist."
