The father of tragic Lucas Dobson has launched a water safety campaign in his name with the head of the team who recovered his body.

The Lucas River Safety Campaign was formed in memory of the six-year old, who died after falling into the River Stour in Sandwich in August.

Nathan Dobson and Pete Faulding came together for the new campaign

Nathan Dobson met with Pete Faulding, the chief executive of Specialist Group International to launch the campaign, which also includes handing out lifejackets.

Specialist Group International are a team who carry out the recovery of drowning victims, covering six areas which no longer have police diving units, including Kent.

They were the team who, in Nathan's own words, "brought my little Lucas home to me."

He continued: "Peter’s determination to prevent drowning is infectious and today we have teamed up to promote water safety. We want everyone to enjoy water but be safe.

"We want to make it cool to wear a lifejacket, just like ski helmets, motorcycle helmets, bike helmets, seat bets. These all save so many Iives every year."

The team have agreed a deal with Baltic Lifejackets to supply a range of lifejackets and buoyancy aids which are customized with Lucas’s picture printed on the fabrics.

They aim to get these into schools across the UK along with safety talks to prevent other families going through what Lucas's family have been through.

This will start with Mr Faulding and Mr Dobson personally delivering the first lifejackets to local schools, as well as giving a water safety talk.
