Steve Wakeford

A stunning photograph of seagulls flying near Deal Pier is helping to fund a series of Green Acorns Mini Projects in primary schools in the area.

Seagulls

Steve Wakeford’s picture is on the cover of the East Kent Mercury and Dover Mercury Calendar 2012, which was given away with the newspaper last week.

His picture was also a winner in the Promoting Deal Photographic Competition earlier this year, organised by the Mercury, Deal Town Council and the Deal and Walmer Chamber of Trade.

Mr Wakeford, who lives in Deal, is also a member of the Deal-based environmental group Deal With It and the green campaign organisation is selling copies of the seagulls photo to fund the school mini- projects in the district.

He said "The idea is to generate some literal seed money to support a school veg garden, start a school orchard, get someone to do a workshop on bee keeping or a talk on our wonderful local countryside. "We have had some fantastic support from Penny and Gerry Bearman at the Burning Bush Gallery in Deal and the EKM to get the initiative of the ground."
