An update on preparations for The Open at Royal St George’s in Sandwich in July will be given at a public meeting in Sandwich soon.

The Open

The golfing greats will be battling for supremacy this summer in east Kent and television viewers across the world will be watching.

Ben Curtis won the championship in 2003 when it was previously held at the golf club, which first staged the event in 1894.

The update on preparations for The Open will be given at the next Deal, Walmer and Sandwich Area Neighbourhood Forum June 7, at The Guildhall, Sandwich from 6pm.

Doors open at 5.30pm, with light refreshments and an opportunity to view displays, and meet local councillors, public service partners and other forum members.

Andy Steele, press officer at the district council, said: "There will be opportunities for questions throughout the meeting. All suggestions are welcomed from local people about what they would like to discuss at future meetings."

* For further information contact the county council’s community engagement manager Emma Carey on 07850 924247 or Anne Charman on 01622 696389.
