Dover mum Melany Price has reached her £1,000 target to help those affected by brain tumours.

Her four-year-old son Matthew has been diagnosed with an inoperable tumour, and the family, who live at Aycliffe, have received a lot of support from Brain Tumour UK.

Melany promised to have her head shaved if the appeal raised £1,000 by this Friday, July 30.

More money came in after the story was featured in the Mercury, but the fund-raising campaign faltered at around £654.

At one stage Melany lowered her target to £750 in an attempt to encourage more people to make donations.

Since being featured on the Mercury website again, more donations have been made, and the total has now passed the £1,000 mark.

Matthew underwent tests at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital in London earlier this year after suffering seizures. At first it was thought it was epilepsy, but Melany and her partner Robert were then told it was a rare kind of tumour, which cannot be operated on.

Donations can still be made by texting MTSJ61 and the amount (for example £5) to 70070, or via the website www.justgiving.com/melany-price, and UK tax payers can Gift Aid their donations.
