An Iceland delivery van has destroyed the second storey window of Williamson and Barnes solicitors in Deal in the early hours this morning.

The lorry hit the bay window, demolishing the frame and smashing the glass at 4.30am this morning in Queen Street.

The smashed window is directly above Lynda’s, the homeware shop, and debris fell right outside the shop door meaning that they were forced to close for the day.

It is believed the driver misjudged the situation when following the curve of the road and got too close to the bay window.

Michael Griffiths, one of the partners at Williamson and Barnes, said that in damaging the window it had also cut off their phone and Internet lines.

The area was cordoned off with police tape in the early hours of this morning and parts of the window frame, nails and debris were hanging down into the street and lying on the pavement below.

Steve Davenport, the owner of Angels Launderama in Queen Street, which is directly opposite, said: “When we came in at five this morning the police had just put tape down but it had blown on the floor so I tied it up.

"Really they should also have put cones in the road for pedestrians to have somewhere to walk."
