Vandalised garden to re-open

The Charlton Green Lawn - which had to be closed following a spate of vandalism, anti-social behaviour and theft - is to be re-opened.

It was closed by the town council after the safety closure on the gate was stolen and there was widespread dog fouling and littering.

Mayor Cllr Mrs Ronnie Philpott said the garden would re-open on October 1,
“Despite the selfish actions of some anti-social folk, the Town Council has invested again to make this welcome green resting place available for shoppers, their children and dogs.

“I hope that everyone will respect this shared space and feel able to report those who do not. I was particularly disappointed at people who did not pick up after their dogs. I always carry bags to make sure that my Shar Pei, Remi, doesn’t leave any unwelcome signs that she has visited!”

The district council empties the litter bin as its contribution and the town council would like to hear from any volunteers or nearby businesses who would help keep an eye on the area, picking up litter if needed.

“We all need to work together to make Dover a better place to live and work,” said Cllr Mrs Philpott.

Anyone who sees theft, damage or people leaving litter or dog mess anywhere in Dover is asked to call either the town or district councils as well as the police to report this on 01304 242625 or 01304 872220.
