Music lovers gathered for the Deal Record and CD fair last Sunday at the Astor Community Theatre.

A host of stalls sold vinyl, CDs, DVDs and music memorabilia including special edition magazines from iconic titles such as Rolling Stone.

Visitors browsed through collectables and rarities, enjoying a cuppa and a slice of cake from the cafe/bar.

One customer, Adam Dawson, 30, of Whitfield, Dover said: “I enjoyed it and would definitely go again, I got some good bargains: Three or four soundtrack albums and a Metallica seven inch I have not seen before.”

Adam said he buys vinyl because it is a “much more tactile experience” than a CD or MP3. He added: “You get the larger artwork. You get much more of a listening experience rather than just putting it on random on ITunes.

“You have to listen to the whole album as it was intended.

“An MP3 has got no box, no case, nothing.”

The fair is put together by former Sony marketing man Freddie Middleton and Keith Ashford who set up the event in response to the decline of local independent record stores and the lack of record fairs around east Kent’s coastal rim from Margate to Hythe.

The next Deal Record and CD fair takes place on Sunday, September 28. Entry is free.
