An entertainment and auction event in Walmer will help aid humanitarian efforts in Nepal.

Antiques shop 1815 and neighbouring music and arts pub The Lighthouse, on The Strand, have teamed up to host an afternoon of live music and fundraising on Bank Holiday Monday.

As a railway engineer, Trevor Pendle of 1815, works with a number of ex Gurkhas, who he describes as naturally polite people.

Trevor Pendle and David Hatton will host an entertainment and auction event in Walmer to help aid efforts in Nepal.

He said: “At least two of the lads lost children in the earthquake. I just thought it would be nice to do something.”

He mentioned the idea to the owners of The Lighthouse and they jumped at the chance to join in.

From 4pm, there will be live music from Billy and Phil, more commonly seen playing with Cocos Lovers and The Hellfire Orchestra.

Fronted by Billy Glinn, their set will include a mixture of engaging original songs and covers ranging from The Felice Brothers, Richard Thompson to seafaring shanties.

At 4.45pm there will be an auction, with items donated by the 1815 shop.

They include a brand new kayak, a West African kora - a 21-string harp (pictured below), a Roman javelin film prop which was used in the film Gladiator, as well as jewellery.

Mr Pendle has invited his colleagues to the event, and at least four hope to be there.

Co-owner of the Lighthouse David Hatton said: “Any other local businesses are welcome to get involved and donate items to the auction.

“Any other fundraising ideas are also very much welcome.”
