A dispersal order comes in force in Walmer this weekend to curb yobs.

It follows complaints of nuisance behaviour and young people acting in an anti-social and intimidating fashion.

The order begins at 5pm today (Friday) and ends at 9am on Sunday.

It covers all of Walmer including the seafront.

Any person over 10 years of age can be directed to leave the area and not return for a stated period of time.

This is if a police officer or PCSO has reasonable grounds to suspect their behaviour has caused, or will likely cause, harassment, alarm or distress.

Kent Police Insp Ian Swallow said: “This order gives officers extra powers to deal with anti-social behaviour in Walmer.

“This poor conduct is, at its lowest, a nuisance, but it can also cause members of the public to feel threatened, which is unacceptable.

“We will continue to take action where the quality of life for residents and businesses is affected.”
