An elderly woman driver was terrorised when youths jumped on her car, rocking the vehicle as she was sitting inside waiting to attend a bingo session.

Police have not named the victim, but a friend said she was left traumatised after the attack.

The woman, aged 72, parked outside Betteshanger Sports and Social Club, off Cavell Square, Mill Hill, waiting for the bingo hall to open at 7pm.

Her friend, who did not want to be named, said: "The yobs kicked and climbed over her car while she sat in it alone.

"They also damaged property and roofing at the sports field."

Police media officer Jon Green said: "Damage to the patio at the sports grounds was reported and I can confirm the elderly lady was sitting in her car when some youths started rocking the vehicle, which was obviously a frightening experience."

Mr Green added that police community support officer Ann Marie Benson had taken details and was carrying out extra patrols in the area to act as a deterrent. He added: "The PCSO has also advised the club to report all incidents where youths are causing a nuisance so that we can build up an accurate picture of the extent of the problem.

"If any Mercury readers have any information about young people causing a nuisance contact the Deal neighbourhood policing team on 01304 218000."

Alternatively anyone with information about the incidents at the sports and social club, who would prefer to remain anonymous, is asked to call Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
