Jill Cliff (W35, 32min25sec) of Deal Tri stormed to success in the women’s race at the Tim Sutton Fowlmead Five held at Deal Country Park on Sunday, despite having an 18-mile training run for the London Marathon in her legs.

Fifteen-year-old prospect Alex Newson, of Invicta East Kent, left it late but was a clear winner of the men’s race.

Newson (32.09) used his natural speed to pass four athletes on the final mile to build on his 2008 Kent County and Kent Schools 1,500m titles.
