Deal Town caretaker manager Dave Johncock is feeling happy – on two counts.

His team have got a game on Saturday and says he’s relishing being at the helm of the Southern Counties East League side.

Johncock’s side were facing a second consecutive weekend without a fixture with the next round of the FA Vase, a competition Deal have already bowed out of, being played this Saturday.

They didn’t play last Saturday as scheduled league opponents Greenwich Borough were in FA Cup second qualifying round action.

And Johncock, who replaced Darren Anslow after he resigned last month, couldn’t be happier.

He said: “It would have been terrible to have another blank weekend because we are itching to build on what we achieved at Rochester United in our last game (Deal won 1-0 to register a first win of the season). Now we have that opportunity and we can’t wait to start over again.”
