Dover Athletic manager Chris Kinnear says Whites must be better at killing off teams at Crabble

There was no joy for Dover manager Chris Kinnear and his side against FC Halifax.

Dover boss Chris Kinnear is trying to eradicate the Crabble fear factor after Bishop's Stortford became the latest side to inflict a home defeat on Whites.

Whites led 2-0 at half-time but went down 3-2 on Saturday to suffer their six defeat in 10 home Skrill South games.

Kinnear said: “It’s disappointing. In the first half we played out of our skins and we looked all right for five or six minutes in the second half. But once they got one goal, the team went into panic mode and it’s hard to stop that.

“We had several chances and we pulled them apart but it changed at 2-0. They slung an extra man up front and gambled. The lads were gutted after. There was only one side in it (in the first half) but it was one of those where a little bit of fear crept in.”

He added: “Over the last three years, it’s been hard at home and we’ve got to solve that. It’s been the same for the last three or four managers.

“There shouldn’t be (fear for the players) but possibly there is. We’ve got to solve that and learn to kill games off. We needed to be a bit boring and win 2-0 on Saturday but we were still pushing forward and they hit us on the break.”

Dover still aren’t halfway through their league fixtures, so the four points separating them from the Skrill South play-offs doesn’t worry Kinnear.

He said: “I think it will change a lot. We’ve had a good season and we’ve played a lot of games already, so we’ve got to be careful we don’t over-react.”
