Samphire Hoe’s Education Centre is in the first stages of being built.

Work began earlier this month to create a central place for people to come and expand their knowledge of landscape and heritage.

The construction of a new education centre is underway.

The shelter is part of the Up on the Downs Landscape Partnership Scheme which aims to increase learning, training, community participation and restore natural features of the area.

It is being funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Eurotunnel, the RDPE Leader Programme and Dover Rotary Club.

The construction work is being carried out by building firm Coombs.

Paul Holt, from the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership at Samphire Hoe, said: “It is so exciting that this build is happening, it will be such a great asset to Samphire Hoe and the Dover and Folkestone area.

An artist's impression of what the building will look like once complete

“The shelter will be a space for visitors and school groups to increase their understanding of the landscape and heritage of the Hoe and the whole scheme area.

“A place to escape from the wind meet some of the volunteer rangers and warm up by a wood burning stove.’

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at the Hoe or perhaps spending time talking to visitors in the Education Shelter please call Paul Holt: on 01304 225649.
