The A2 has re-opened in both directions after two separate crashes this afternoon.

The first happened at midday where a HGV collided with a lamppost.

The male driver had a leg injury but did not require further medical treatment.

All emergency services were in attendance. Picture: Stuart Jaenicke.

Shortly afterwards another collision occurred, involving three cars and prompting the road's closure London-bound.

Firefighters were able to free a middle aged man who was trapped in an overturned blue Rover. It is believed he was the driver.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: "There was a car on its roof.

"They (firefighters) used hydraulic rescue equipment to free him.

"We made the scene safe and left at about 1.30pm."

A man has been taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford with head injuries, not believed to be life-threatening.

All roads re-opened by 2.50pm.
