A man is appearing in court follows this summer’s siege at Whitfield.

The 42-year-old from Dover has been charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

The suspect, who has not yet been named has been bailed to appear at Folkestone Magistrates Court on November 2.

Armed police at a siege

The charge related to a six-hour armed siege at the Mowll and Mowll solicitors’ office at Gordon Road, Whitfield, on August 16.

Police were called at 4.05pm and armed officers surrounded the building following reports of a man with a gun inside. Police negotiators were called in to try to encourage the man to surrender.

It was understood that he was alone in the building.

A 42-year-old man was arrested that evening and was later kept on police bail until Monday last week .

It was after this that he was charged.

The sieged leaded to roads around the area being cordoned off causing long queues on the A2.

Staff in neighbouring officers were unable to leave for home for several hours.
