Dover's Astor College for the Arts "requires improvement" according to the latest Ofsted report.

The 988-pupil school, in Astor Avenue, had its first inspection in March.

But the report was never published because the visit was "incomplete."

This was followed by an apology from the regulator, who went back for a second inspection in July.

An Astor College spokesman said: “Over a number of years, the school has built an excellent national reputation for its arts provision.

"While it is recognised the school requires improvement is some areas, the management team and staff are already implementing a number of changes which Ofsted acknowledges will make a considerable difference.

"The school is grateful for the support it receives from parents and the community at large; it is no surprise that the majority of students are proud of their college.”

Astor was made into a performing arts college in 2002.

An inspector said in the final report: “There is some very good teaching and learning, for example in the expressive and performing arts subjects, design and technology, and English."

In October 2011 it was rated good by Ofsted.
