LITTLE Britain star David Walliams is taking a well earned rest today after completeting his cross-channel swim.

The 34-year-old comic finished the swim in 10 hours, 30 minutes, the fastest crossing this year. He said he was delighted he had finished faster than his estimated 14 hours.

Mr Walliams, who hopes to raise £500,000 for Sport Relief, set off from Shakespeare Beach at Dover on Tuesday at 5.34am, and clambered ashore at Cap Gris Nez at 4.04pm.

It was a spectacular triumph for the actor, who had only been training for the swim for six months, but had impressed seasoned Channel swimmers with his determination and courage. He had trained with Queen of the Channel Alison Streeter in Dover Harbour during the build-up to the swim.

Mr Walliams' parents were on Shakespeare Beach to see him start the swim, and they then travelled to France to watch him finish.

Before he set off, he received a phone call from his Little Britain colleague Matt Lucas wishing him well for the attempt.

kmfm was there to congratulate the star when he arrived back in Dover and asked him how it felt to complete the challenge...
