The father of a four-year-old boy trapped in a crumpled car in Dover has said he is lucky to be alive.

The crash involved a Hungarian-registered lorry which is believed to have hit two cars in front on Jubilee Way.

David Ladd, 41, of East Cliff, was accompanied by his two sons, Aidan, four, and 17-year-old Mark.

David Ladd and his two sons were victims of a three vehicle smash on Jubilee Way

He was driving a silver Toyota Yaris up the hill when traffic caused him to stop. Behind him was a woman, driving a 4x4 vehicle.

It is believed a lorry was involved in a crash with the car, which shunted it into the back of Mr Ladd's vehicle.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene and had to remove the roof with hydraulic cutters to free the boy.

The road was closed in both directions for about 90 minutes last Wednesday afternoon about 800 yards from the A2 roundabout.

It is believed the lorry had just left a ferry at the port.

Firefighters got to the scene within 10 minutes of receiving the call

Aidan was taken to the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, for an X-ray after complaining of neck pain.

The family are now back at home and recovering from the ordeal.

Mr Ladd said: "Everyone is fine apart from having neck pain and marks. They had to cut the roof off to get Aidan out. He was screaming and crying.

"All I could do was try and help him move his head and wait for the emergency services. They were amazing, the police were actually already coming up Jubilee Way.

"Aidan would have been dead if the lorry had gone into us first. The car can be replaced."

Police have said the lorry driver, a man aged 37, has been reported for summons for driving offences.
