Firefighters in Dover tackled a set of burning trees last night after a children's game got out of hand.

One appliance attended the incident in woods off Coombe Valley Road at 5.42pm.

It is suspected children had been trying to make fires in the woodland area and they spread out of their control.

The small blaze was extinguished within half an hour.

Firefighter Mark Parker said: "It wasn't particularly bad, but it was enough for someone to call us."

The crew has sent out a safety message advising people to not play with fire.

Mr Parker added: "Any time we're called out to something like this, we could be missing a house fire or car crash.

"Please don't play with fire."
