Firms plan new link to Boulogne via Calais

P&O Ferries and National Express have joined forces to offer a new link to the bustling French fishing port of Boulogne from key destinations in London and the South East.

It follows the postponement of a new ferry service between Dover and Boulogne which was supposed to have been introduced by SpeedFerries a couple of months ago.

The company has now said the service might start later this summer, or next spring.

National Express and P&O Ferries have come together with a combined service which offers coach departures from a range of locations, Channel crossings between Dover and Calais, then onward coach travel to Boulogne.

Among the 14 departure points are Hempstead Valley, Stroud, Rochester, Chatham, Maidstone, Canterbury, Ashford and Dover.

The busy harbour and historic town of Boulogne remains one of the most popular destinations for British visitors. However foot passengers have struggled in the past as Boulogne does not have direct ferry services and modern superferries are too large for the port.
