Firefighters called to flat fire in Dover after candle left burning

Firefighters are urging people not to leave candles unattended after a flat fire in Dover.

Crews attended the blaze in East Cliff at 12.30pm yesterday (Thursday).

The fire was caused after a tea light candle was left burning on the side of a plastic bath.

Crews used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to go in and extinguish the fire in the top floor flat.

Smoke and fumes was cleared from the property with a positive pressure ventilation fan.

Duty of care was left with the property owner just after 5pm.

Two fire engines attended, one from Dover and one from Deal.

They were also assisted by UK Power Networks and a gas safety engineer.
