New features also include trees along King Street.

The estimated total value of the project is £3.1 million and there is a grant application to the Coastal Communities fund of £2.9 million.

The square is seen as a natural connector between the St James retail and leisure complex and other developments planned by the Port of Dover and Dover District Council.

There are also plans to create an improved space for community activities and markets and for limited de-pedestrianisation of Cannon Street and Biggin Street.

The redevelopment depends on funding from the Coastal Communities Fund. If that is secured, the project could be completed by December 2019.
