Two men have now been charged with the thefts of charity collection boxes for a teenager with cancer.

James Pope, 33, is accused of taking the Kelly Turner tins from four different Dover businesses.

They are Tennessee Fried Chicken, at Cherry Tree Avenue, on Monday, August 7, the White Cliffs Bakery at Buckland Avenue, on Monday, September 11, and Domino’s Pizza, Pencester Road, last Thursday.

He is also accused of attempting to steal another collection box from Crabble Post Office at Buckland Avenue, Dover, on Tuesday, September 12.

Pope, of no fixed address, has been charged with another seven unrelated counts of shoplifting and one count of assault.

He appeared before Canterbury magistrates last Saturday and was remanded in custody until a date to be determined.

Meanwhile Craig Dunn appeared in court charged with stealing a Kelly tin from the Dovorian Restaurant on Wednesday, September 6.

Dunn, 25, of Westbury Road, Dover, is accused of taking £50 worth of donations.

He appeared before Medway magistrates last Friday when he was bailed to appear before Folkestone Magistrates this Wednesday.

The collections are for Kelly Turner, a 17-year-old from Dover who needs £1 million for specialist treatment in America for a rare form of cancer.
