Princess Anne visits Kent's new marine survival complex today.

The Princess Royal will be at the Maritime Skills Academy at Menzies Road, Dover, which provides training for firefighting, CPR and survival in the water for emergencies on ships.

It has a pool 12 metres long and three metres deep, which simulates various ocean conditions and also has training sites, navigation simulators, engine room simulators and a navigational system.

The centre was opened on Thursday, September 8, by Sir Alan Massey, chief executive of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

The Princess, the Queen’s second child, has ample maritime connections.

She is Patron of the Royal Yachting Association and also the mariners’ charity Trinity House, which is responsible for the Dungeness Lighthouse on Romney Marsh and the North Foreland one at Thanet.

It is also in charge of the light vessels, Varne and Sandetti in the Channel and the East Goodwin one marking the Goodwin Sands.
