A police sergeant is suing City of London Police after having to dodge live ammunition during a training exercise.

Robert Haughey, from Strood, was taking part in firearms training at Connaught Barracks in Dover in March 2015 when it took place.

The 47-year-old is now said to be suffering with severe PTSD after bullets were fired towards him.

A statement from the force states an officer discharged live ammunition from a firearm that was supposed to be using imitation rounds.

No one was struck by those discharged live rounds.

"This incident was reviewed by the City of London Police Professional Standards Department in 2015, overseen by a senior investigating officer," it said.

"A number of recommendations were made and an action plan implemented to ensure that it could not happen again.

"These have been managed by the City of London Police firearms senior leadership team.

"Improvements included further training for some of the officers involved."

A Heath and Safety Executive investigation concluded no further action was needed by the force.
