Police have revealed 32 people have now been arrested in relation to the violent protests in Dover in January.

From those arrested, just one is from Dover.

So far 15 people have been charged - 13 for violent disorder and one of those also for GBH, and another two for possession of an offensive weapon.

Left and right wing groups clashed in Dover

This comes after a police press briefing was held today in Folkestone to give more information on how officers plan to police future demonstrations, with the next due to take place on Saturday, April 2.

Far-right groups and anti-fascists clashed in the town on Saturday, January 30, when two rival protests ended in violence and destruction.

Many now fear that the group's future protests, organised in support of truckers who are fined if illegal immigrants are found in their vehicles, will also leave the town out of pocket and under fire once more.

Protesters swamp the petrol station at the junction of Folkestone Road and Effingham Street, and police move in, January 30.

Speaking at the briefing, assistant chief constable Neil Jerome said: "I can reassure the people of Dover that we are putting in place a comprehensive policing operation to deal with what we have been notified of for April 2 and our officers are very well trained, very well equipped and very well briefed in dealing with that issue."

He added that officers have been de-briefed on what happened previously to make sure they are in the best possible position to police protests peacefully.

His message to businesses and the public of Dover is to carry on their lives as normal as police work to minimise the disruption to the people of Dover as much as possible.
