A popular foodstore is closing after seven years.

Co-operative Food in Castle Street, Dover, will shut down next February 11.

The Co-operative Group says this is a single closure in the supermarket chain and that it will try to relocate the 24 Dover staff to other branches.

Craig Brownsell, spokesman for the Co-op, said: We can confirm that our food store in Dover is to close in February 2017.

“The decision to close the store has been made as part of our ongoing store review process, and is in no way a reflection on the hard work and commitment from the 24 colleagues working at the store.

“We would like to thank our shoppers for their valued custom over the years.”

The store, facing the Stembrook car park, had formally opened on July 15, 2010.

It had previously been operated by Somerfield and re-branded after the Co-operative Group’s £1.56bn acquisition of the Somerfield chain in 2009.
