Port of Calais closure leaves as many as 2,000 stranded

Ferry services have resumed following industrial action which left as many as 2,000 people stranded in Calais.

The port was shut by French workers from MyFerryLink striking over job cuts last night.

It was reopened in the early hours of the morning although P&O is reporting all its services are still subject to delays.

Owners Eurotunnel turned their back on the company earlier this year, leaving more than 600 Calais jobs in the balance.

It also affected about 70 workers from Dover.

Over the summer strikes have caused huge problems for the county's traffic, with the authorities bringing in Operation Stack multiple times.

The M20 has housed lorries for miles as they waited to cross the Channel by ferry or tunnel.

It also added hours to people's work commute.
