A bomb disposal unit was called after a suspect package was found in a lorry this evening.

A cordon was put in place after the package was discovered in a lorry in a depot on Menzies Road, Whitfield, Dover, just before 7pm.

The road was shut from the roundabout near the Kittiwake Pub and a number of emergency vehicles were spotted parked in the area.

Staff at the Kittiwake Pub, which remained open to customers throughout, reported a number of blue lights and sirens in the area.

The army bomb disposal team inspected the vehicle and found the package was non-suspicious.

The cordon was lifted at about 8.30pm.

The road closure caused serious congestion with traffic gridlocked on the roundabout with Honeywood Road.
