Travellers pitch up in Maison Dieu car park in Dover

These pictures show just some of the caravans which pitched up in a Dover car park yesterday but have now moved on.

About seven caravans were seen in the Maison Dieu car park close to the Town Hall where the local election count is taking place today.

Dover District Council was quick to act by serving notices to the travellers requesting they moved on.

It was feared that if they didn’t move, there may not have been enough room for vehicles coming in for the count.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm that DDC served notices to move on caravans in the Maison Dieu car park yesterday afternoon. The caravans had moved by 5pm.”

It comes just a day before travellers are said to have abused and intimidated leisure centre staff and councillors as they tried to get onto land in Gillingham.
