An American marching band brought some New Year’s Eve cheer to the streets of Dover.

Members of the Pride of Arapahoe Warrior Marching Band from Centennial, Colorado, braved the near-freezing temperatures to play and march their way around the town centre, ending up in Pencester Gardens where they gave a display of their skills.

The visit had been organised by Dover Carnival Association Limited, whose chairman Mandie Sehmbi was delighted with the event.

The 75-strong band was in England for the New Year’s Day parade in London and agreed to come to Dover.

Setting off from the Market Square the musicians marched through the town centre.

The band played a mixture of marches and seasonal songs as well as some numbers from their performance schedule.

The band members are from the Arapahoe High School, which has a unique relationship with the Arapahoe Tribal Nation and the Warrior Marching Band.

The band has been in existence since the school opened in 1964.

As well as marching, the band is known for concert, jazz and chamber music.

In 2005, they were named the Marching Band Showcase Grand Champions and were state champion runners-up in 2005 and 2007.

This week's Dover Mercury - out Thursday - has a two-page picture special on the march through Dover.
