Firefighters have issued safety advice after a chip pan fire caused extensive damage to a kitchen in Dover yesterday (Tuesday).

Two appliances attended the home in Markland Road at around 2pm.

The blaze started after a chip pan was left unattended by residents.

Watch manager Jamie Muddle said: "It was caused by an unattended chip pan fire. There's a safety warning there to remind people not to leave chip pan's unattended or alternatively use oven chips, that's a safer option.

"There was quite extensive damage to the kitchen but luckily no one was injured, just shocked."

Crews put out the fire and were on the scene for an hour.
