A section of the famous White Cliffs of Dover has gone up for auction.

The landmark has long been synonymous with the bravery of military men and the fortitude of the nation and featured in the late Dame Vera Lynn’s war-time anthem of 1942.

The land off Old Dover Road at Capel-le-Ferne is Lot 122 in September's auction

Now, auctioneers Clive Emson is to auction 17.29 acres (6.99 hectares) of the cliff-top, boasting unrivalled views across the English Channel to France.

The land is situated on the south of Old Dover Road in Capel-Le-Ferne near Folkestone and next to the Folkestone Warren Country Park.

Jon Rimmer, auction appraiser, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to own part of the iconic cliffs.

“There is a variety of wildlife on the land – but no bluebirds which are a north American species.

“The wartime song had a new lease of life earlier this year following the death of Vera Lynn who was 103."

The land is being offered with a freehold guide price of £50-55,000 in September's online auction ending Wednesday, September 23.
