THE resignation of Steve Cattermole, Dover Athletic’s financial director, is another blow for the cash-strapped club.

Club chairman Mick Kemp said: “It’s been a difficult couple of weeks for us, what with the bombshell of the VAT bill and then Steve’s resignation.

“Steve has worked hard in his role on the board for the last couple of years, and his presence in the boardroom will be sorely missed.”

Mr Cattermole decided to step down after admitting he had made a mistake over interpreting VAT regulations on the sale of hot food. But he will stay on as company secretary.

He said: “I have to take responsibility for the one mistake and that’s why I’m stepping down. My presence on the board, seeing as the club are appealing to the business community for help, could potentially be damaging for Dover Athletic.

"And I would never want to be a burden to this club. I am still a proud fan and Trust member and will continue to be the company’s secretary.”
